In a way, the rejection of the Librarian's plan and this imperialistic understanding of Mantle almost symbolizes Ancient Human civilization and its immense diversity. Combined with the antagonism Forthencho has toward the Forerunners and Librarian's plans in Primordium-in contrast to Chakas' almost-spiritual reverence-I think this becomes pretty meaningful. I remember hearing complaints about how the Librarian talked about humanity's geas in Halo 4, how it devalued humanity's accomplishments and the agency of characters like Halsey. The Mantle of Responsibility being reformed into an 'every-race responsibility' seems to be a common idea around here, but the specific point about Librarian's plan for humanity being the 'antagonist' particularly interests me. Had to stop reading and comment: I really like this take. ![]() John rejects being a ‘Chosen One’ of the Librarian, not as a Denial Of The Call, a step in his Hero’s Journey, but because the Mantle – the Librarian’s plan for humanity – is the true antagonist of the Reclaimer Saga. ![]()
